Riad Timila, Marrakech

Marrakech is where Arabia and Africa meet, creating an amazingly vibrant mixture of cultures. Throbbing with life, the red city is set against the backdrop of the magnificent Atlas Mountains.

Timila means ring dove in the ancient Berber language of the Moroccan people, and the birds perch on the trees and plants of the roof terrace garden.  Riad Timila is an oasis of calm, which belies the fact that it is situated just five minutes from the carnival atmosphere of Djemaa el Fna, Marrakech’s main square and the hub of city life.

It is a magical place which floods the senses with extraordinary sights, sounds and smells, casting an unforgettable spell over all who visit. In the exotic and exciting heart of the old town of Marrakech you will find Riad Timila, a peaceful and romantic retreat from the hustle and bustle of the Medina.  The staffed riad sleeps up to twelve comfortably, and is available to rent on an exclusive basis.

Property Detail

The Riad has five double bedrooms, all with ensuite bath/shower rooms, and a further bedroom/bathroom suite with a double bed and two bunks, designed with teenagers in mind.  This means that it accommodates six couples or 12 people comfortably.

It is simply but very comfortably furnished, with great attention to detail throughout.  The house is built around two central courtyards, one with a fountain, the other with a beautiful dark blue plunge swimming pool.

On the ground floor is the four bedded room, a kitchen, the salon, the media room (flat screen TV with Sky, DVDs etc), a dining area, and a bhou (an open lounge area perfect for cocktails), as well as a double bedroom with king-size bed and bathroom.

On the first floor are three double bedrooms (two with ensuite shower rooms and one with both bath and shower), and the master bedroom with superking bed, fireplace and its own private terrace.

The roof provides a double terrace with views of the Atlas mountains and the Koutoubia mosque, a service kitchen with drinks fridge, a hammam and a massage room.

There is also a dining area that can seat twenty people, comfortable sunbeds, a shower for cooling off and additional seating.

Timila is perfect for parties, be it a birthday, anniversary, family get-together or any special celebration.

Staff:
Zara is the cook/housekeeper, and is there to look after you. She cleans the house on a daily basis, makes the beds and prepares breakfast every day.   This is included in the rental price. Lunch and dinner are not included in the rental price, but Zara will prepare either or both for you if you would like.  She will need notice of this, and payment in advance.  The price for lunch is 70 dirhams per person, and for dinner 100 dirhams per person.  Zara makes use of the fresh produce in the market, so everything is very seasonal.

There is also a house manager, Brahim, who speaks good English and French.  Zara's French is limited but Brahim is an excellent translator if you need him.  He will meet you at the airport, recommend places to visit, book you taxis and restaurants, arrange trips to the coast, mountains or golf courses etc - and will take you shopping or guide you through the medina should you wish.   Brahim’s daily charge for guiding is just 200 dirhams (approx £15) so it is well worth making use of him.

Rates:
£3,500 GBP per week all year around including breakfast excluding Christmas and New Year - price on application.  Short breaks available – minimum 4 nights.

Other Information:
Please be aware should that narrow staircases and roof terraces are part of the architectural heritage of Marrakech, and should be treated with respect!

Local Area

Just three and a half hours flight from the UK, Marrakech is another world; a marvel of sights and sounds with its minarets, honeycombed alleys and labyrinthine souks, Marrakech captures the imagination like no other city.

A day spent exploring its exquisite architecture and history, or meandering through the medina, the smell of spices in the air, brightly coloured carpets hanging from roofs, plunging into the hurly burly maelstrom of passages where tradesmen ply various crafts, from cloth dying, copper beating, and leather working to herbalists, perfumers and slipper makers, is a day you will never forget!

As dusk falls, sip sweet mint tea at one of the rooftop cafes in the Place Djemaa el Fna and watch the snake charmers and performers appear on the square; as the cacophony grows around you; it really is the most exhilarating experience!

With the snow-capped High Atlas Mountains as a backdrop, and framed by the red desert, Marrakech is a city that time seems to have forgotten.
