This old Tuscan farmhouse, which sits in total seclusion in the midst of its own private olive grove and lemon trees, has been beautifully restored by its owners, who have created a comfortable, informal yet stylish home. 

Despite having the appearance of being in the depth of the Tuscan countryside, The Olive House is just a stone’s throw away from the beautiful beach La Feniglia and the picturesque Porto Ercole.

Property Detail

The ground floor also contains a separate cloakroom and laundry. The house is on three floors, with lots of steps.  One long partially covered stair leading to the top floor and two small stairs connecting interior floors. It is suitable for mobile elderly but probably not recommended for small mobile children.

 

The hallmark of the house is its unpretentiousness.  The outside steps lead you up to a large, light and comfortably furnished sitting room on the first floor.  A few steps lead you up to a large landing off which run two twin bedrooms and a bathroom.  There is a single bed in the landing often used by the children of the family.

 

The second floor is also accessed by the same outside staircase.  There is a spacious study, which leads to a private dressing room and master bedroom with en suite bathroom.  The master bedroom enjoys lovely open views across the olive groves.  From the study a few stairs up lead to an identical landing as on the first floor.  Off this landing are two twin bedrooms and a bathroom.   As with the landing on the first floor, there is also an extra bed for children if needed.

  • There is no air conditioning.  Ceiling fans in all the bedrooms.
  • House has central heating, with one fireplace in the living room.

Garden:

  • Covered loggia furnished with stone table and benches with comfortable cushions.
    Large olive grove.
  • Swimming pool - 4m wide, 12m long and 2m deep.  It has a platform 8 inches in the water with three steps on the side leading down.  The pool is a short distance from the house up the hill.  It is not fenced in and children should be supervised at all times.  The pool is open for us April – Nov.  It is not heated.

Staff:
The house comes with a housekeeper and a  maid:-

  • The housekeeper will meet the guests, give them the keys to the house, show them how things work.  She can be contacted for any emergency, breakdown etc.
  • The maid comes four hours a day, five days a week. She cleans, tidies outside and inside the house, washes/changes sheets once a week and irons.
  • A cook is also available at extra cost to shop and cook lunches or dinners.
  • Available all year round apart from August.
  • Utilities payable locally.


Local Area

The nearest beach is a five minute drive. It is a three mile long public beach.  Bicycles can be rented - you can ride in the pine forest running along the back of the beach and reach unpopulated areas this way.

Tennis courts are available in three nearby locations.   No membership necessary.

The nearest shopping centre is a three minute drive from the house where all general household items can be bought (food, wine, liquor, some toiletries) there is also a butcher and a bakery.

There is an open market on Mondays -  8-12pm selling food, clothes, household items, plants and upholstery.   There is a large market in nearby Orbetello on Saturday mornings- 8-12pm.
Nearby Porto Ercole is a pretty seaside town and is one of the two main towns on Argentario.   It has a wonderful buzz during the summer season when the long seaside promenade is filled with people strolling by the shops, cafes and restaurants next to the boats anchored in the harbour.
